What is Seresta?

Seresta is a medicine that has a calming effect. It falls under the benzodiazepine group. This medicine is used in case of feelings of anxiety and tension in severe form. Seresta can also offer a solution if there is insomnia or alcohol withdrawal symptoms. It is a short-acting medicine, so one should be careful that no addiction occurs.

How does Sesta work?

Seresta affects the central nervous system. From the brain, Seresta ensures the muscles are relaxed. At the same time, it improves the stimulus transfer in the brain. This contributes to reducing anxious feelings and being able to sleep better.




How is Seresta used and what is the dose?

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Are you unsure about the
correct use? Then contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Seresta is available in a dose of 10 mg and 50 mg (Seresta Forte) tablets. The dosage depends on the age and nature of the complaint.

12 years and older:  If there is anxiety, the starting dose is 10 mg, 3-4 times a day. This can go up to a maximum of 50 mg, 6 times a day if there is serious anxiety in combination with depression. In the case of sleep disorders, the dose is 15-50 mg once daily before bedtime. For alcohol withdrawal, the dose is 10-20 mg, 3-4 times a day.

Children up to 12 years:

Up to 6 years:  10-30 mg per day, spread over the day

From 6-12 years:   10-40 mg per day, spread throughout the day

This medicine must be taken with water.

When should you not use Seresta?

You may not use Seresta in the following cases:

  • You are allergic to oxazepam or to one of the other ingredients in this medicine
  • You are pregnant
  • You are dealing with myasthenia gravis, an attack on the transmission of nerve impulses that has caused muscle weakness

What are the possible side effects of Seresta?

Seresta can cause side effects, but not every user needs to be bothered. These are the most common side effects that occur in particular in the first period of use:

  • Daytime sleepiness, drowsiness, confusion, dizziness, decreased coordination Double vision
  • Flattening of the feeling
  • Muscle weakness
